This is a 645 page collection of Irving’s writings covering ‘The Word of God,’ ‘The Parable of the Sower,’ ‘The Book of Psalms,’ ‘Missionaries after the Apostolical School,’ and etc.
Edward Irving (1792-1834) is correctly regarded as the first British Pentecostal leader and the forerunner of the Pentecostal church which began in the early 20th century, some 70 years after Irving blazed its trail.
This Scottish pastor, theologian and founder of the Catholic Apostolic Church in 1832, led the first Pentecostal/charismatic movement which advocated the restoration of the 5-fold ministries of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers and the availability of spiritual gifts (charismata), especially speaking in tongues (glossolalia) and prophecy.
Unfortunately, resistance to his teachings on the ministry of the Spirit and his published doctrinal views on the humanity of Jesus, took its toll on his health and he died in 1834, at the age of 42 years. Nevertheless, he was undoubtedly a man ‘born out of due time’ and will forever be honoured as a man who heard the voice of the Spirit and who received revelation from God regarding the true nature and function of Christ’s Church.
